Avebury. A fine example of standing stones that pre-date Stonehenge. In the middle ages a small hamlet grew on the site and in the nineteenth century many of the stones were carefully uncovered and re-erected.
Silbury Hill. Well, we have put it under Historical Remains, but Silbury Hill continues to defy archaeologists. We know it is man made, and it predates recorded history. And after that? Despit a number of careful digs Silbury still guards its secrets.
