The major features of South West England consist of a number of ranges of hills, of which perhaps the most important are the Mendips, its moors - Dartmoor and Exmoor, both of which are national parks, and the low lying Somerset Levels.
Cheddar. Town that gives its name to the world-famous cheese
Mendip Hills. The hills were designated an 'area of outstanding nateral beauty' in 1972. They cover 198sq kms from Bleadon to Chewtom Mendip and incorporate 3 beautiful gorges. The area is well known for its wildlife and geology
Cotswolds. Dominating the Eastern half of the County are the Cotswold Hills. Here the landscape is criss-crossed with Cotswold stone walls and dotted with fine cottages and outstandingly beautiful villages, makig this one of the U.K's most scenic areas.
Marlborough Downs. The oldest road in Europe wanders along empty, open ridges over Wiltshire's Marlborough Downs and was given the name of 'The Ridgeway' by invading Saxons.
