Ventnor offers the most breathtaking views on the Isle of Wight. And indeed you will probably be quite out of breath when you've scaled Ventnor's steep streets, paths and steps and reached the cliff top. But it is most definitely worth the effort. From Saint Boniface Down, the cliff top walk allows you to admire all the pretty houses of Ventnor all the way down to the beach some 800 feet below, but amazingly just a few yards away.
For amateurs of wide and striking seascapes, this is an ideal spot. You can then stroll down to the sea walk , taking in the wonderful salty air and sea spray and finish on the promenade to recover from your emotions in one of the friendly cafes and pubs .
Ventnor has the usual array of souvenir shops, amusement arcades and sandy beach, as well as nice gardens and parks , golf and sea related activities.
Bonchurch
This tiny village is one of the oldest places on the Island. It has a delightful little church ,St Boniface built on the site of an 8th century Saxon church recorded in the Domesday Book, surrounded by a churchyard and nearby, a very charming romantic looking pond, with swans, water lilies, willows , elms and firs.
Built in the 18th century by Sir Robert Worsley, this baroque house was regarded for many years as the grandest on the Isle of Wight, until it was partially destroyed by fire in the 19th C.The magnificent gardens were designed by Capability Brown
To take a stroll around this magnificent shell of a house,on a warm summers day ,basking in the shade of dozens of mature and rare trees,is a truly ethereal experience.
Situated on the Freshwater to Ventnor road, this fascinating place was where some prehistoric remains, as old as 120 million years were discovered and are now exhibited.
