This village once had an important abbey, long destroyed by the religious wars. A few walls and a tower are all that are left, apart from the church which still has some fine early Christian (5th century) artefacts.
The village itself is noteworthy for being one of the best examples of the attractive Béarnaise architecture, including some houses on pillars.
