This small town marks the junction of the valley that leads to the ski resort of Gourette and the dramatic Aubisque Pass (Col d'Aubisque) with the beautiful Ossau Valley. It is an ideal centre for exploring the mountains and valleys, with the National Park close by and an unusual observatory for a colony of Griffon Vultures.
It is also a centre of cheese making, as anyone who has witnessed the occasional rush hour in Laruns can testify - as three or four flocks of sheep arrive at the same time in the central square, all going in different directions and stopping off to drink at the fountain.
