Fleurance was founded as a bastide in 1272, as can still be seen from its geometric layout. The town suffered substantially during the upheavals of the 100 years and then the religious wars, as well as the tyrannical regime in the 15th century of local lords. So few old buildings have survived.
Today it is a busy commercial town, with a fine stone-built central hall that replaced the original medieval building in the 18th ccentury.
