This village is thought to have been the first home of the counts of Armagnac. It certainly was founded in the mists of time and has suffered various adventures throughout the turbulent history of the area. It was sacked by the Black Prince in 1355, and captured by Protestants in 1590, taking advantage of the absence of the Catholic defenders at a wedding.
Nevertheless the 12th century Roman church has survived, and there are some lovely old houses, as well as the arcades with wooden pillars. It is a busy agricultural centre, where armagnac is important.
