Orthez, cité active où se tient un grand marché les mardis, est située sur le Gave de Pau avec un joli vieux pont dont on se sert toujours.
Gaston VII de Moncade a choisi Orthez pour capitale et l'a fortifiée, mais il reste peu de ses travaux. Elle demeura la capitale jusqu'au 15e siècle.
Orthez est aussi célèbre pour avoir été le théâtre de la grande bataille quand Wellington a battu l'armée Soult, et il y a un monument dédié au courage du Général Foix, le héros de l'armée française perdante.
