The Tour de France passes some of its most spectacular stages in the South West of France - in the mountains and foothills of the Pyrenees in Bigorre, Pays Basque and Bearn.
Following in their path you can find some wonderful cycling routes - but be warned that the southern part of the South West is hard-going especially in the summer sun.
Otherwise the flatter Gers with many small country roads and spectacular views, is a lovely place to cycle. We have included Mountain Bike riding in this section too, although different from the Tour de France this is a popular sporting activity and there are many cross-county routes.
